We’ve asked the new Youth Missioner Chad Chadwick to tell us a little about himself:
I have an odd array of hobbies that keep me out of trouble; I enjoy rugby (watching), football (playing), sculpture, Northamptonshire shoes, gardening, DJing and going to the ballet with my gran. I own lots of chickens and ducks that wander freely over my neighbours gardens and I drive a bright orange transit van that I use for community projects. That’s me in a nutshell, except for the most important thing, I am a Christian that lives to serve God’s Church in response to His grace.
Before taking on this new role as the Oakham Archdeaconry Youth Missioner I had been doing youth and community work in Rushden for the last 15 years.
I trained in Youth & Community work with the Centre for Youth Ministry (Ridley Hall, Cambridge). I have a passion for seeing young people engaging with their local Church, discovering Jesus, and becoming disciples. I am bursting with enthusiasm to serve God’s Churches in the Peterborough Diocese, and long to see youth work burning brightly – so I am praying that the Holy Spirit will breathe new life into burning embers”
Chad feels strongly about the importance of youth work.
“We need to change the way that people view Youth Work, we need to make youth work accessible again. Too often there is a disconnect between young people and the Church, ministering to young people should be a natural part of the fabric, rather than a separate garment. This will require bespoke parish tailoring under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.”
Chad is here to help people who work with youth in the Oakham Archdeaconry, email him at Chad.Chadwick@peterborough-diocese.org.uk or ring him on 01604 887359.
